Sunrise over river Gorai – Kushtia

I was in Kushtia to Celebrate the birthday (25th Boishakh) of our world famous poet Rabindranath Thakur. It was his 149th birthday. When the bus stopped at Mazampur bus stand it was 4:00am in the morning. And I already had a plan to view the sunrise over the river Gorai.

Before sunrise the sky was a bit colorful.

Sunrise time was at 5:15am. So taking about half an hour to rest, I reached the Gorai river bank before 5:00am. I selected the area around Chad Mohammad Road Ghat near the Thana Para. There was a bridge made from bamboo standing still over the river. I took my place in the middle of the river and I was facing towards the eastern side so that I could easily enjoy the beauty of the sunrise.

Due to the dry season, the water level was really low in river Gorai. That’s why the people were easily able to use the bamboo bridge. Otherwise you would have no other option but to use the boats from kheya ghat. It took one Taka for each person to cross the bridge as it was made with the help of local people (who contributed by labour or bamboo).

Thousands of people were crossing the river using that bamboo bridge within an hour. Even before the sun rose, people were crossing from the eastern bank (village) to the western bank (town) to join their daily work, or to search for work. It was a nice view because the school boys and girls were wearing uniforms and started walking to their school (Maybe they have to go a lot far for their education). Few people from different organizations were wearing their uniform too. Others were in colorful dresses. Despite it being a summer day, the morning around the river Gorai was slightly chilling.

I found a local guy was throwing his fishing net in the Gorai river so that he could collect a handful of fishes before the sun rose. When the sun was rising that energetic guy was almost finished collecting his net from the river and he was busy gathering the fish. His smile from his face was spreading wide along with the sunrise because he got the fish that he had expected.

There was a small amount of cloud in the sky, and last night it rained. I think that’s why I didn’t get the full beauty of the sunrise. But whatever, this is my first time to enjoy the sunrise over a river. I loved the river Gorai, and the morning was awesome. I was happy to carry the memory of that morning for many years.
