A day in Shopnopuri amusement park – Dinajpur

Shopnopuri (also known as Swapnopuri or Shapnapuri) is an amusement park that is located in Aftabganj of Nababganj from Dinajpur district. After reaching Dinajpur town by overnight bus travel I’ve decided to visit this amusement park first. This theme park is built using a vast area (around 920 acres of land). There are different sections inside the park and you would need to buy separate tickets to enter those individually. In Bangla the word Shopnopuri means the land from dream (or the land from imagination). Visit the photo gallery for more photos of Shopnopuri and Dinajpur.

How to go:

There are several ways to reach the Shopnopuri amusement park. You could reach Fulbari railway station using a train from Dinajpur. Or you could reach Fulbari using bus services. There are several buses you could use. But the best one is the Mail bus service for the Dinajpur-Bogra route. Catch one of those and just get down at the stoppage Fulbari Dhaka Mor. There is an auto (a tri-wheeler) vehicle service running between the amusement park and that stoppage. If you need any help you could ask the local people. This is a very popular tourist attraction from Dinajpur district. Just FYI, The bus for the Fulbari is available at Jora Bridge of Dinajpur town. It would take you around 2-2.5 hrs to reach the Shopnopuri amusement park. The road from the town to the park is really nice. GPS Coordinate of the amusement park is (25°30’18.3″N, 89°03’50.0″E).

Entry price for the park:

The entry fee for the Shopnopuri amusement park was 20 Taka per person during my visit. At the entrance you could find two statues of angels waiting to welcome you inside the park. After entering the park you’d find one of the most artificial beauties from Bangladesh.

Fish world

This amusement park is divided into several sections. I visited the Fish world first. The ticket was 5 Taka for each person. Inside this part you could see some artificial water plants, fishes, and other water animals. Also the statue of mermaids made the place really beautiful. This part was still under construction but lovely to enjoy. I loved this part more than others during my visit.

Animal kingdom

Then the next one was the Animal Kingdom where you’d find several artificial animals like Dinosaur, Emu, Snake, Flamingo, Pegasus, and many more like that one. I didn’t like this place that much, but I think the kids would love it. Again the entry fee was 5 Taka only.

The Art Gallery

Then I went inside the Rongdhonu Art Gallery which comprises different kinds of sculptures, and paintings. Once again, this one also required a 5 Taka priced ticket. This part of the theme park was severely under construction (or very new). It didn’t take much longer to explore this part. It was displaying several paintings portraying the history.

Magic show

There is a small place where a person was performing a magic show for the visitors. It was not that much of a high profile magic show but with a 5 Taka ticket price the value was more than that. Moha Maya Indrojal was the name of the magic show.

Mini Zoo inside the park

Finally, I have gone to visit the Zoo of the theme park. The main thing that attracted me to enter the zoo was the white peacock. I love to watch the full plumage of the white peacock. Also the zoo had other animals and birds. This was a small zoo, but nice enough for the visitors.

As I was wandering inside the amusement park alone, a lot of people were interested to know about me. There were young visitors from other parts of Bangladesh as well. Many of those wanted to have a selfie with me as well. Apart from visiting the park, those were also a fun moment for me. All together everything went perfectly for me.

My visit to this Shopnopuri amusement park was during 2010. That time it was not fully completed yet. Most of the parts were under construction. The entry price might vary in current days. Also it might have better public transportation than the time I visited.

This amusement park (or you can say theme park if you want) is a nice day tour option for the people from Dinajpur. Also, a lot of groups from different parts of the country visit here as a picnic. They have a parking option for buses and private cars.
