Binat Bibi Mosque – Dhaka

Binat Bibi Mosque

Binat Bibi Mosque is the first mosque from Dhaka that was built by Bakht Binat, the daughter of Marhamat. It was during the rule of Sultan Mahmud Shah I at 1454. At current days this mosque is located in Narinda. If you want the exact location that case it’s at 90 Narinda Road, Dhaka. FYI, It is near from the Police Camp of Narinda. GPS Coordinate of the Binat bibi mosque is (23°42’40.1″N, 90°25’05.6″E).

Initially it was a single domed mosque and the length of the mosque was around 12 ft. This is a very small mosque but nicely decorated. Later on it didn’t have any care or anything from the government. Another dome which is just similar to the original one was built at the top of the mosque. Also the authority added a balcony with the mosque. So it’s hard to get the original flavor of the mosque. Besides there have been plenty of buildings standing around the mosque. The place is too much congested and that’s why not too many visitors come to see this mosque despite of being a historic mosque.

Binat Bibi Mosque

Now a days interestingly I found local people use to call the mosque as Gunai Bibi’s MosqueGunai Bibi is a character from our local stage performance known as Jatra Pala. I think people had mixed up with the Gunai Bibi and Binat Bibi. So if you find difficulty to locate the mosque you could refer them to take you to Gunai Bibi‘s mosque.
