Bangshal pukur, Old Dhaka

Bangshal pond (or Bongshal or Bangshal pukur) is located in Bangshal which is in the older part of the Dhaka city, Bangladesh. This pond is a private property and controlled by whom I don’t know. But whoever they are, taking a very good care of this pond. It’s neat and clean. Every side of the pond are plastered properly. Also they have kept a road at all sides of the pond so that you could use that as your evening or morning walk.

During my Old Dhaka exploration this Bangshal pond was the last list form my bucket. I was almost tired and exhausted after visiting the popular locations and landmarks from the Old Dhaka. After having a walking lap around the pond I took a seat at the stairs of the pond. People were taking a bath with the pond water (few were swimming).

According to the noticeboard it’s a 930 ft or 275 meter if you walk for one round at the pond’s perimeter. So six round would give you a mile, and 4 round would give you a kilometer of walk. They are encouraging the local people to walk for good health. Which is indeed a good initiative. All sides of the pond is green with beautiful coconut trees. Should be a nice walking experience around Bangshal pond in morning.

When you are visiting there you could take a bath in the pond’s water. It would cost only two Taka per person for the bath. I found few people were taking bath at the both ghat of the pond. There were a cool bridge at the proximity of the pond. It would be a nice idea to spend few minutes there.

How to Go:

GPS Coordinate of the Bangshal pond is (23°42’56.1″N, 90°24’26.5″E). It would be a nice idea to take a rickshaw from somewhere near Gulistan to come near the pond. Cause most of the rickshaw puller from that area would know about this pond. It should take 20-30 minutes of rickshaw drive through the older part of Dhaka city.
