Khajura Baor is located near the Trimohoni bazaar of Keshobpur upazila. This is mainly a shallow arc shaped stagnant water container which is commonly known as Oxbow lake. In Bangladesh this is locally known as Baor. Unlike any other Baor its water level decreases drastically during the dry season and people cultivate paddies and other seasonal crops here that time. But during the rainy season it is full of water and looks like a river. I always had interest in the Baor as they look very interesting in google maps. Once upon a time there was a river but now the river is flowing somewhere far from the current location, but it left a trace of it. Check the photo gallery of Jessore for more pictures.
It was almost around sunset when we reached the Khajura Baor. Another one named Jhapa Baor (larger compared to the current one), was very near from this place. We had a plan to visit that one too. That’s why we couldn’t spend that much time here for exploration. Though I was itching to cross the Khajura baor using the boat nearby. But had to sacrifice that wish as the cost of time was half an hour. The Khajura came from the village name which is inside the arc of the Baor.
About Baor
A Baor is an arc shaped lake that is formed at a bend/turn of a river/canal which is also known as Oxbow lake. Basically the river has been dead/changed its course for several decades. But the water at the bend of the river is still prominent. So it just turned into a lake and had the shape of an arc or oxbow. The length of the arc can be 10% to 95% of the circle. How to go
There are several ways to reach near Khajura baor from Jessore town. Below is the possible best or shortest route to visit the baor. Another option could be through the Keshobpur -> Trimohoni -> Khajura baor.
1) First reach at the Monirampur upazila using any public buses. It would be around 18-20 Taka per person.
2) From Monirampur hire a motorbike to reach Rajgonj bazaar. It would be 60 Taka per bike, two people can ride after the bike owner.
3) Khajura Baor is around a 10 minutes of motorbike ride, or a 30 minutes of tricycle van ride from the Rajganj bazaar.The GPS Coordinate of the Khajura Baor is (22°56’56.18″N, 89° 8’56.84″E).
Where to stay
There are few hotels available in Jessore and Khulna. But most of them are not available to book from online.
